ILEP Indonesia-Malaysia alumni conference

This week I joined ILEP alumni conference in Aryaduta hotel. I joined from Sunday, November 14 until Tuesday, Nov 16.
But I went home on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
I was happy and enjoyed the conference. I met a lot of people, great teacher from around Indonesia and Malaysia.
It is very funny and excited experience. I hope this conference will be held every year. Amin.
I like Dr. Linda Robertson sessions. She is from Kent State University (Ohio state).
Of course, I also like the other sessions. I admire Linda. She was teacher in elementary school, then she became principal and now, she teach in University.
I know, we can't compare between Indonesia and other countries, especially with develop countries.
But, I like the fact that people in University whose teach in Education major, mostly they have background as a teacher in elementary and secondary school before they teach in University. It is quiet different with University of education in Indonesia.
How can people teach students to be a teacher in K-12 education if they never be teacher in K-12 level?
K-12 education level is education level from kindergarten until senior high school.
I mean how you can teach to handle kindergarten students if you never teach kindergarten students?
Do my mind is right or wrong? Now, I understand why people in Indonesia learn the right lesson in the real life not in school because their teacher don't give the experience about real world, just only give the theory.
And thats why a lot of people graduate from university still be unemployment.
Maybe we have to include real world/real problem become our curriculum. Or, we as the teacher, who the one do it. Don't have to wait the government. Teacher must be creative to include real problem in the world as a part of our lesson. Am I right?
maybe, we have to think and see again, what is the meaning of education? what is the purpose of education?
Lets see very clear.
